Barndominium FAQs

Straightforward Answers From Virginia’s Trusted Custom Barndo Builder

Barndominiums are growing in popularity across Virginia — and for good reason. They’re flexible, affordable, and full of character. At Spear Builders of Virginia, we’ve helped clients design and build fully custom barndos across Central Virginia, and we’re here to answer your biggest questions before you build.

What is a barndominium?

A barndominium (or “barndo”) is a custom home inspired by barn-style architecture. It typically features an open floor plan, metal or board-and-batten siding, vaulted ceilings, large porches, and optional shop or garage space.

Barndominiums are known for combining rustic charm with modern amenities — and they’re ideal for building on rural land throughout Virginia.
